Guido, listed 24th in the 2020 Telegraph Tech Hot 100 UK entrepreneurs and in TVBEurope's 2021 watch list of the 25 "movers and shakers" of the media technology industry, is CEO and Co-founder of V-Nova, IP and software company dedicated to improving data compression based on the game-changing use of AI and parallel processing for data, video, imaging, point cloud compression. V-Nova's technology - focused on reducing the processing/energy requirements of data processing while at the same time improving the overall quality of experience - is already at the foundation of two international standards, MPEG-5 Part 2 LCEVC (Low Complexity Enhancement Video Coding) ISO/IEC 23094-2 and SMPTE VC-6 ST-2117. For video distribution use cases, LCEVC (www.lcevc.org), was independently validated to produce a 60-70% reduction of energy requirements for transcoding whilst also improving compression efficiency by 20-50%. VC-6 demonstrated a 70-80% reduction of AI media indexing processing requirements, whilst improving the F1 index for accuracy and recall. Both standards can also be implemented as software upgrade on existing devices, thanks to their being designed to leverage hardware acceleration already in place for graphics processing. V-Nova is also active to leverage its technology for compression and processing of more complex data types, such as those required for immersive and volumetric XR/metaverse applications, with the overarching vision of making the future of digital come alive faster and more sustainably. Former senior Partner at McKinsey, where he was head of the Organization and Operations Practices of the Mediterranean Complex, Guido has a breadth of business experience and access to senior executives in a variety of industries and geographies, with well-established experience in telecoms, technology, healthcare, insurance, aerospace and defence. He led transformational projects in all continents and was instrumental in setting up some of McKinsey’s own innovation-related business-building activities.
Guido is also a serial entrepreneur and angel investor, with many previous business ventures and half a dozen exits. Having retained his engineering expertise, he contributed to the foundational development work for V-Nova’s core technology and is a joint inventor of a number of essential aspects of the technology as well as of several of its latest developments, with over 200 patents co-authored and filed.
Guido holds an MBA from MIT Sloan, where he was a Siebel Scholar, and an M.Sc. in Computer Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, where he was an Intel scholar, and the University of Texas at Austin.
