iSIZE, a pioneer in deep learning for video delivery, has become a member of Greening of Streaming. This is a global forum with members across every aspect of content streaming, to address the ever-growing concerns about the energy impact of the streaming sector.
According to predictions from Future Market Research, the video streaming market is expected to grow from $61 billion in 2020 to $750 billon by 2031, a staggering CAGR of 25%.
That market growth comes at the cost of an equivalent growth in its environmental impact through all the data centres and delivery networks associated with CDNs and the internet.
Greening of Streaming exists to foster collaboration through the supply chain, leading to better engineering to create a great experience for the consumer without wasting energy.
“Sustainability is one of the core principles at the heart of iSIZE and its technologies,” said Yiannis Andreopoulos, CTO and co-founder of iSIZE. “By applying advanced perceptual analysis modelling to the video signal, we can maintain image quality at significantly lower bitrates, which in turn may lead to reduced energy demands. Greening of Streaming is a great opportunity for us to share ideas with the rest of the industry and contribute to new initiatives which drive down the environmental impact.”
Dom Robinson, founder of Greening of Streaming, added “The membership of our organisation ranges from companies which are household names to businesses like iSIZE who, while invisible to users, have the potential for a big impact on sustainability. I warmly welcome iSIZE to our community, and I look forward to the contribution they are going to make across the industry, through initiatives originated and debated in our forum.”
